DIRECTOR OF PLANNING AND ENGINEERING
Located on the Yellowhead Highway, Yorkton is a progressive community of approximately 17,000 people serving as a hub to the Parkland region. Due to its large trading area, Yorkton has many larger city amenities and provides the quality of life of a smaller community. The City of Yorkton is seeking a key player for its management team, as the Director of Planning and Engineering, to evaluate, co-ordinate and implement a sound plan for the growth, development and renewal of our vibrant community. Reporting directly to the City Manager, Major Responsibilities Include: Responsible for the Citys Municipal Planning Services, specifically the ongoing review and application of the Development Plan and Zoning Bylaw including the processes required for land use planning, sub-division approvals, development and zoning control; including overseeing the Building Inspection Division. Responsible for the Engineering Division, overseeing the planning and construction of the City infrastructure in accordance with good engineering practices. Acting as an Advisor to City Council, Administration, the Municipal Planning Commission and the Business Improvement District; Prepare reports, recommendations, policies and project proposals; Conduct research on development issues, carry out urban design projects and follow through on the Downtown Redevelopment Plan serving as a visionary in local and regional planning initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS: The preferred candidate will have a degree in Urban or Regional Planning or related profession; Five years municipal experience; Possess sound knowledge of the principals and practices of planning and be familiar with Provincial Legislation as well as municipal bylaws; Must possess strong communication/report writing and computer skills.
